  • Jesus and his entourage are rejected by Samaritans
  • Ten lepers (at least one from Samaria) are healed
  • Jesus sends out 72 disciples in pairs to the cities he is about to visit to teach and heal
  • The 72 disciples return with great news
  • Jesus issues a famous invitation
  • A teacher of the law asks a question, in order to justify himself.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE:

  • Jesus and his disciples find a man born blind
  • The disciples use this meeting to ask a theological question
  • Jesus uses this meeting to heal the man
  • Some of the man’s friends and family don’t believe that it is the same man. Others believe the healing
  • The Pharisees question the man – not just once, but three times
  • The Pharisees question the man’s parents
  • Jesus goes back to the man and reveals himself to him. The man believes
  • Jesus teaches: I am the gatekeeper to the sheep
  • Jesus teaches: I am the good shepherd
  • The crowd is split over this healing event and the teaching
  • We summarize the “I am” statements that Jesus has made to date

In this Jesus Stories episode, Jesus tells his listeners of his identity.  However, the Pharisees and other Jews spend more time arguing than listening. Jesus challenges them with his words and reveals who he is, where he has come from, and from where he has received his authority. That doesn’t set well with the teachers and Pharisees. Although, some others believe.  I break down this teaching to help you understand this interchange.

What Happens in This Episode?

In this Jesus Stories episode, we take a deep dive into two questions. First, Jesus asks all of us, “Who Do You Say I Am?” The answer to this question had profound effects on the life of Peter who responded, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Our answer also has profound effects on our lives. We discuss the implications of that answer. Second, Jehovah God asks, “To whom do you listen?” Our response determines how we live. Through the Sermon on the Mount, we ask the questions Jesus might have for us to determine to whom we are listening.
