WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE:

In this Jesus Stories episode, we examine the question of costs. Have you ever considered the value of the Kingdom of God? Jesus explains this to us. Given its value, then, what is the cost to follow Jesus into the Kingdom of God? Jesus explains that to us, too. We take a deep dive into these questions as we consider “The Cost For Following Jesus.” This is a tough teaching to hear. But, it is crucial to understand what Jesus asks of us as followers.

What Happens in this Episode?

We resume the narrative from episode #4-34. Jesus is in the midst of a crowd of thousands of people. People are stepping all over each other – in spite of Jesus rough teaching to the Pharisees. Now Jesus turns to these people with his own warnings about the Pharisees. He continues with a challenge to speak up for him even when it is difficult. He teaches about greed and repeats a lesson we heard in the Sermon on the Mount – don’t worry. He reminds his listeners to be ready; ready to serve, ready for Jesus to return.

This episode of the Jesus Stories podcast covers some interesting events and begins some famous teaching. What Happens in this Episode?

In this week’s Jesus Stories episode, we continue telling the narrative of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. We start in Capernaum – Jesus’ home base – where he teaches and, again, confronts an evil spirit. This is followed by more teaching and lots of healings. We’ll see two well-known healings: Peter’s mother-in-law and the man let down through the roof of an over-crowded house. Jesus calls Levi (Matthew) and then attends a party which Levi throws for him. In these last instances, Jesus confronts the attitudes of the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law.

Here is a reference map of the region covered in today’s show.

What Happens In This Episode:

In this Jesus Stories, we meet several people who have different reactions to Jesus and his teaching. The residents of Sychar believe Jesus. So does a government official from Capernaum. But, the Jews in Jesus home synagogue and some other Jews decided that they didn’t believe. Some fishermen believed after seeing an awesome catch. And evil spirits knew who Jesus was but not his purpose. The question I ask at the beginning is this: Whom do you believe? (We’ll talk more about that question in the next episode.)
