What Happens in this Episode

This week’s Jesus Stories episode will delve deeper into two statements Jesus made last week. We talk about Jesus claim that “you must be born again” and his statement that he “came down from heaven.” What do these claims really mean for you and me? How should they impact our lives if we believe them?

WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE?

Jesus begins collecting followers in this Jesus Stories episode. We meet his first followers and see an early miracle. Jesus also travels to the first Passover and has his first confrontation in the Temple with the religious leaders of Israel.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE

  • Jesus shows his disciple, Thomas, who was doubting that he was alive, the proof of his resurrection
  • Jesus eats breakfast with some of his disciples
  • Jesus forgives Peter for denying him and gives him a job for the future
  • Jesus shares a prediction of the kind of death Peter will endure
  • Taking his disciples on a mountain, Jesus gives them instructions for their future as his followers
  • At Bethany, the disciples wonder if Jesus is restoring a kingdom for Israel
  • Jesus blesses them and ascends to heaven

THE SHORT STORY SHOW NOTES

  • Jesus: “What does everyone say about me?”
  • Jesus: “Who do you think that I am?”
  • Peter jumps in with a confession and Jesus responds with an important and controversial reply.
  • The apostles are given access and authority.
  • Jesus shares his future sufferings with his followers. But, Peter reprimands him.
  • Jesus responds by telling everyone that following Jesus is costly; it may even cost your life.
