WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE

  • Jesus shows his disciple, Thomas, who was doubting that he was alive, the proof of his resurrection
  • Jesus eats breakfast with some of his disciples
  • Jesus forgives Peter for denying him and gives him a job for the future
  • Jesus shares a prediction of the kind of death Peter will endure
  • Taking his disciples on a mountain, Jesus gives them instructions for their future as his followers
  • At Bethany, the disciples wonder if Jesus is restoring a kingdom for Israel
  • Jesus blesses them and ascends to heaven
  • The apostles return to Jerusalem where they pick a replacement for Judas Iscariot
  • The story of Jesus physical life on earth ends while his influence continues through today

With this episode we have told the entire life of Jesus while he was on this earth. But, the story doesn’t end there. It goes on in the lives of the people who believe in and follow Him. Their stories are Jesus Stories that inspire and amaze. We’ll start telling those stories soon.

#45 – Torture & Execution (Holy Week #10)

  • Jesus is flogged – twice
  • Pilate turns Jesus over to his Roman garrison to be crucified
  • But, first, they have to have some fun with ridicule and bullying
  • Jesus is lead to the place of the skull for execution
  • Jesus is nailed to the cross
  • He is mocked and ridiculed while hanging there
  • Jesus commissions John to care for his mother
  • Jesus promises the only who stands up for him a place in paradise
  • The sky grows dark in the brightest part of the day

#44 – Trials (Holy Week 9)

  • Jesus is taken to be questioned by Annas
  • Annas sends Jesus to Caiaphas for trial
  • The Sanhedrin question Jesus under oath, requiring Jesus admit that he is the Messiah
  • The Sanhedrin consider Jesus guilty of blasphemy
  • Judas regrets his actions and gives back his money
  • Judas hangs himself
  • Jesus is brought before Pilate for trial
  • Pilate and Jesus converse about the nature of kingdoms and truth
  • Pilate sends Jesus to Herod who sends him back to Pilate with a not guilty verdict
  • Pilate seeks to release Jesus, but the crowd is out for blood
  • The crowd demands the release of Barabbas for the Passover celebration

WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE:

Jesus comforts and teaches his disciples with the following emphasis:

  • Jesus began and ended with comfort for his disciples. “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust….” “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart.” A gift which cannot come from the world.
  • Jesus is physically leaving them. But, he is not leaving them – or us – alone. In his place, he is asking the Father to send the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, and inform them.
  • Your love for me is demonstrated by the way you keep my commandments.
  • My Father and I are one. I am in him, and he is in me
  • Your job is to believe and obey. Believe in the Father and in Jesus; we are one. Obey the commands to show your love for us.
